In 2004, a trip to Brazil and a brief visit to Paraty completely changed the life of the photographer and art director Giancarlo Mecarelli. Enchanted with the historic center, nature and cultural climate that surrounds it, decided to leave Italy to live in the city, where he opened the Zoom Gallery and created the festival Paraty in Focus.
Giancarlo began his career in Brazil as an advertising illustrator. He was art director at major advertising agencies in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, such as Standard Propaganda, Alcântara Machado, D.P.Z., McCann Erickson, Denison and others. In Europe, he worked as art director in Barcelona, ​​Madrid and Milan, for Youg & Rubican, J.W.Tompson, McCann Erickson, among others.
He has signed several advertising campaigns as well as covers and editorials for fashion magazines and opinion magazines. He exhibited in Milan and other Italian cities. In 1996, he was invited to exhibit the work "Donne per Forza" at the Pan American School of Arts in São Paulo. The show had a major impact on local media and provided television material, including an interview on Jô Soares' show.
